Garden State Candles
(2022)
Scents are one of the most powerful ways to bring back memories, stories or emotions from the past. This is why, Maya Sriqui loves to preserve all these beautiful moments within her scented soy wax candles. Her desire to create and work with her senses and her hands brought Maya in 2017 to the foundation of Garden State Candles - a brand that not only involves candle making but also established an everlasting universe of beautiful dried flower bouquets.
Maya comes from a very diverse cultural background. She regards her main character to be French, while still strongly identifying with the broad culture and knowledge that her parents raised her with. Being a romantic and nostalgic person, Maya loves fresh flowers and at the same time regrets to see them wilt away. She finds dried flowers to be way more sustainable, as they last forever and are also able to carry a lot of symbolism.
In her business, Maya highly values community over competition and she just loves to discover other artists, hear their stories and highlight their individual work and projects. Maya's concept store for beautifully handmade home decor also offers a consciously curated selection of graceful products from local partners such as jewelers, perfumers, ceramists, screen-printers, illustrators and many more. She also offers workshops and invites partners so that they can share and teach their craft and passion with other people.
Garden State Candles can be found as one half of the beautiful Schmilblick in Berlin - while the other half is an outstanding café with delicious and freshly baked French pastries like brioches, financiers and croissants. And not only the Schmilblick itself, but also Maya's work and contribution is a wonderful form of taking the random and creating something unique out of it.
